‘Tan Mom’ is reportedly ‘fighting for her life’ in the hospital during battle with pneumonia – NJ.com

Patricia Krentcil, who is known to many as “Tan Mom” after her high-profile 2012 arrest, is reportedly in critical condition battling pneumonia.

According to Yahoo, the former Nutley, Essex County, resident is hospitalized in Florida and “fighting for her life” after her pneumonia took a “turn for the worse.”

Sources told Yahoo that Krentcil was placed into a medically induced coma Friday and that she is on life support, the report says.

Krentcil has weak lungs because she’s a smoker, which made doctors unable to drain fluids, the report says, adding that she went into cardiac arrest.

The mother gained notoriety in 2012 due to her tanning habits and extremely darkened skin tone.

Krentcil was arrested after Nutley school district officials noticed her then-5-year-old daughter had suffered burns. The child had mentioned she had gone tanning with her mother, which prompted second-degree charges against Krentcil (children under the age of 14 aren’t allowed to use tanning booths). A grand jury didn’t find enough evidence to indict her.

“I love to tan, as you can see. I’ve gone tanning my whole life,” Krentcil said at the time.

“I’d never endanger her life by putting her under the ultraviolet light,” Krentcil added.

Krentcil has said the notoriety that came after the incident became burdensome and that she turned to therapy to cope. Her likeness was parodied on late-night television and turned into a doll in 2012. She did a brief stint in alcohol rehab in 2013.

According to Yahoo, Krentcil recently moved to Florida to continue pursuing her music career.
