Fairfield Has Spoken: McGlynn and Cifelli to Continue Serving on Township Council – TAPinto.net
FAIRFIELD, NJ— According to the unofficial election results (without provisionals) provided by the Essex County Clerk’s Office, Michael McGlynn and Joseph Cifelli will both keep their seat on the Township of Fairfield Council. They will fill the two open seats on the council.
The unofficial results determined that McGlynn and Cifelli pulled ahead of Daniel Scirica with nearly 90 percent of the vote, (or 928 votes total votes for McGlynn and 862 votes for Cifelli). Scirica tallied a total of 236 votes, or approx. 12 percent, in comparison.
“Fairfield has spoken,” McGlynn and Cifelli said in a joint statement. “The numbers are in. Your voices have been heard. We thank you for all your support. We look forward to servicing the great people of Fairfield. We love you all.”
Scirica also thanked his supporters, stating that he gave it everything he had and “with the best intentions.
“At the very least we have started a conversation of how important it is to hear different perspectives and ideas, so that progress may take place,” said Scirica. “Above all, the most important message is how imperative it is to challenge the status quo, know your local politicians and vote. Thank you again for your unwavering effort and support in my first political endeavor.”
McGlynn and his wife of 39 years, Linda, have lived in Fairfield for 30 years and have three daughters: Tara, Jeanine and Shannon. McGlynn’s oldest daughter, Tara McGlynn-Medina, his son-in-law, EJ, and his three grandsons, Michael, Anthony and Joseph have also chosen Fairfield as their home.
McGlynn graduated from Bloomfield High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1982. He is a business representative for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68, of which he is a 39-year member.
In addition to being a member of the Fairfield Township Council since 2007 and serving as Council President in 2009, McGlynn is also the liaison to the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Fairfield Department of Public works. He also served as the Fairfield Environmental Commissioner from 1996 to 2001, Fairfield Municipal Alliance from 2004 to 2007, Fairfield Zoning Board of Adjustment from 2005 to 2007 and the Fairfield Conservation & Sportsmen Association and is a past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus member, T-ball, Softball and Basketball coach for Fairfield Recreation and a Blood Center of New Jersey Life Member Donor.

Cifelli and his wife of 42 years, Donna, have raised their four children—Alex, Michelle, Joseph and Maria—in Fairfield. Like McGlynn, Cifelli’s children also chose Fairfield as their home to raise their families. Joe and Donna enjoy nine grandchildren: Charlotte, Peyton, Joseph III, Tim, Vivienne, Eliana, Angelo, Mateo and Christian.
In 1990, he launched a small business which grew into a nationwide corporation to which he is president and CEO. Cifelli is the council liaison to the finance committee, the Fairfield Environmental Commission and the Office of Emergency Management. He has also served six years as the Fairfield Recreation Commissioner; coached football, baseball, soccer and softball for Fairfield recreation and the private club teams; was the co-founder and past president of the Fairfield Athletic Association; was a former St. Thomas More CCD teacher; is a former Boy Scouts of America Merit badge counselor; is a member of the Fairfield Conservation and Sportsmen Association; and is also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
