Help A Mourning Cop From Bloomfield Spend Time With His Daughters – Bloomfield, NJ Patch

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Elkin Orellano is the kind of guy who will give you the shirt off his back. But after his wife, Karina, the mother of his two daughters unexpectedly passed away from a brain aneurysm in March, the New Jersey state trooper has been in need of a little help from the community that he serves.

An online fundraising campaign for the family of Orellano, a Bloomfield resident with a heart of gold, has raised almost $7,000 as of Tuesday. (Learn more or make a donation here)

If you’re part of a family that relies on two incomes, you’ll know why the funds are so important to the Orellanos. According to the GoFundMe campaign:

“As you may imagine, Elkin and his daughters are going through the toughest moments of their lives. Elkin is doing his best to remain strong for his two daughters, who are at an age when no child should live without their mother… With the loss of Karina comes the loss of income for the household, as Karina worked full time as a senior clinician for Children’s Aid and Family Services. For this reason, we are asking for any help possible to offset the lost income. This will help Elkin focus on healing and being present and strong for his daughters, instead of picking up extra shifts at work.”

Essex County residents may recognize Elkin, who regularly volunteers for charity runs and has sacrificed time away from his family in the name of selfless service such as a volunteer trip to Puerto Rico to offer assistance during Hurricane Maria.

“Elkin would take the shirt off his back for anyone who needs it; now it is our time to help Elkin and his daughters during this time of grief,” campaign organizers wrote.
