Code Blue Alert Activated in Newark Through Friday – TAPinto.net

NEWARK, NJ – City officials today activated the season’s first Code Blue alert, which enables authorities to take homeless adults to shelters that have available beds. 

The alert will be in effect for tonight all the way through Friday as a strong cold front is expected to move through the city. Temperatures are forecasted to drop to the mid-20s and low-30s until Friday.

“Newark is facing an onslaught of extremely cold temperatures and wintry weather conditions,” Mayor Ras Baraka said in a statement. “I urge our residents to take precautions to keep their homes safe and be safe when they are out and about, and to check on their neighbors, especially the disabled, children, and the elderly.”

Code Blue alerts are called when temperatures reach 25 degrees or lower without precipitation or 32 degrees or lower with precipitation.
