Coping With Loss And Dealing With Grief During The Holidays – TAPinto.net

NUTLEY, NJ – Coping with the loss of a loved one is never easy, especially during the holidays.  Grieving is a process that has no timetable, and everyone mourns in a different way, at different rates.

To help patrons deal with the sensitivities of losing a family member this past year, SW Brown and Son Funeral Home of Nutley hosted their 21st Annual Holiday Memorial Brunch at The Chandelier in Belleville on Sunday, November 18.

The memorial was hosted by Peter Brown, a third generation Brown who joined the family business on a full-time basis in 1992.

“Grief is a natural response to loss, it’s the emotional suffering you feel when someone you love it taken away, no matter if they are young or old, after a long illness or something unforeseen, when a loved one passes away it’s never painless,” said Brown.  “It’s only natural that during this holiday season, the feeling of loss becomes more prevalent.”

Grieving doesn’t always end with the funeral.  It is important to be aware of how grieving impacts daily life.  At some point, individuals may want to seek assistance or bereavement counseling.

“SW Brown provides a climate of mourning with the expression of grief, we allow you to honor and remember your loved one and provide a place to celebrate your loved one’s life,” said Brown.

Mrs. Premasoti Debbie, a local bereavement therapist who has spoken at the holiday memorial for several years, addressed concerns of dealing with loss during the holidays.

“Grieving is not a solitary experience – we feel like it is, but it shouldn’t be just by yourself,” said Debbie.  “We need time by ourselves, but we also need time with other loved ones, like friends and family.”

Grief is not a disorder, disease or a sign of weakness.  It’s an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity.  The only cure for grief, is to grieve.

“When you are in the middle of grief, it’s the worst thing ever,” Debbie explained.  “Not every funeral home does this.  I think it’s important and commendable because it accentuates the need to come together and grieve.”

SW Brown has been a cornerstone of Nutley for seven decades, always giving back to its patrons.

“January 1, 1950, my grandfather took a chance – a chance to follow his dream,” Brown added.  “SW Brown and Son Funeral Home has been serving Nutley for 68 years.  It is our commitment to serve our community.”
