UPDATED RESULTS: Verona, Cedar Grove School Elections

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Verona and Cedar Grove residents hit the voting booths on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to make their voices heard in the 2018 General Election. Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Cedar Grove, voters chose Board of Education members. In Verona, residents picked BOE members and also voted on two separate school funding referendums.

CEDAR GROVE BOARD OF EDUCATION (2 seats, 3-year term)

With 10 of 10 districts reporting, both Nicole DiChiara and Predrag Peter Prvulovic will serve on the Cedar Grove Board of Education, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office:

  • Nicole DiChiara – 2606 (56.43%)
  • Predrag Peter Prvulovic – 1998 (43.27%)

CEDAR GROVE BOARD OF EDUCATION (1 seat, 1-year unexpired term)

With 10 of 10 districts reporting, Michele Mega will serve a 1-year unexpired term on the Cedar Grove Board of Education, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office:

  • Michele Mega – 2778 (99.82%)

VERONA BOARD OF EDUCATION (2 seats, 3-year term)

With 11 of 11 districts reporting, Pamela J. Priscoe and Timothy Alworth captured seats on the Verona Board of Education.

Here are the unofficial results, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office:

  • Pamela J. Priscoe – 3649 (38.43%)
  • Timothy Alworth – 2771 (29.19%)
  • John Quattrocchi – 2207 (23.25%)
  • David Vincent Rullo – 836 (8.81%)

In Verona, voters also faced two separate public school district funding questions.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF VERONA PROPOSAL #1 – “In addition to the regular advertised budget, the board of education will seek approval from the district’s legal voters to raise an additional $215,000 for the expansion of our existing kindergarten program. This proposal will increase our current kindergarten program to a full day program from January 2019 to June 2019. The program would be in the budget in 2019-2020 as a full year program beginning September 2019. The additional levy will provide funds for an increase in teachers’ salaries, lunch aides, supplies, and textbooks. The taxes, if raised, will be used exclusively for this purpose. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase in the district’s tax levy. These proposed additional expenditures are in addition to those necessary for a thorough and efficient education.”

With 11 of 11 districts reporting, the school funding was approved, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office:

  • YES – 3375 (57.67%)
  • NO – 2477 (42.33%)

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF VERONA PROPOSAL #2 – “In addition to the regular advertised budget, the board of education will seek approval from the district’s legal voters to raise an additional $550,000 for the expansion of our in district Mental Health Programming. The additional levy will provide for three mental health clinicians and will increase the Child Study Team staffing. The program will be instituted from January 2019 to June 2019. The program will be in the budget in 2019-2020 as a full year program beginning September 2019. The taxes, if raised, will be used exclusively for this purpose. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase in the district’s tax levy. These proposed additional expenditures are in addition to those necessary for a thorough and efficient education.”

With 11 of 11 districts reporting, the school funding was approved, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office:

  • YES – 3282 (56.99%)
  • NO – 2477 (43.01%)
