MATAWAN, NJ – The Raider Marching Band received a third place trophy at the USBands State Championships in Matawan, New Jersey.
Their performance earned a score of 93.6125, putting them less than a point behind the first place band. They also received the caption award for Best Percussion Section and Best Overall Effect. The percussion section has been undefeated for the entirety of the season.
There were thirteen bands competing in Division IVA. The Raider Band’s score was 7.6125 points higher than the lowest scoring band. Pequonnack High School won second place, receiving a 93.775, and Allentown High School came in first, with a score of 94.550. Allentown also received captions for Best Music and Best Visual.
The competition was originally set to take place at HighPoint Solutions Stadium, at Rutgers University, Saturday, but was postponed due to the weather.
The weather did not prevent marching band seniors from being honored at the Senior Day events of Saturday’s home football game.
Next Sunday, the band will be competing in USBands National Championships, at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This will conclude the marching band season.
The Nutley Raider Marching Band will be in the 41st Annual Nutley Irish American Association St. Patricks Day Parade on March 2, 2019.
