RWJBarnabas to Host Second Running with the Devils 5K Run/Walk

WEST ORANGE, NJ – As the official healthcare provider of the New Jersey Devils, RWJBarnabas Health will present the second annual “Running with the Devils 5K Run and Family Fun Walk,” in partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL) team on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Essex County’s South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange.

Proceeds from the family-oriented event of will benefit programs and services at RWJBarnabas Health’s 11 statewide hospital facilities, hospice initiatives, the Behavioral Health Network and Children’s Specialized Hospital. The event is designed to bring together participants from across the state and support the collective commitment of RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils to build stronger communities.

With Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. serving as honorary chairman, the day will kick off with a competitive 5K race on a USATF Certified Course through the South Mountain Reservation. The race will be complemented by a family fun walk through the reservation as well.

Additional activities include interactive games, an appearance from the New Jersey Devils mascot, music, face painting and the opportunity to meet New Jersey Devils alumni.

The 5K race will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the family walk beginning immediately after. Registration for the 5K is $30 for adults ($25 fee for USATF members) and $10 for children over 4 years old. Children under 4 years will be admitted free of charge.

All entries include free admission to Turtle Back Zoo for the day of the event, an event t-shirt and completion medal. Awards for the 5K run will be presented to the top three male, female and child finishers.

As part of the charitable aspect of RWJBarnabas Health “Running with the Devils,” and to encourage team participation, there will be several awards presented to individuals/teams who lead the fundraising efforts.
