Partial Road Closure on Broad Street between Bloomfield Ave. and Belleville Ave Tonight
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Tonight at 7:00 p.m., Essex County and contracted construction work crews will begin performing repairs to Broad St. that will span from Bellevue Ave. to Bloomfield Ave. Work will continue every weeknight for the next few weeks.
Work will begin at Bellevue Ave. and move South toward Bloomfield Ave. A strip of Broad St. will be closed during these work hours, which will be 7:00 p.m until 6:00 a.m. This project is being funded by the Essex County 2018 Roadway Resurfacing Program.
Repair work for this project includes milling and paving. Milling involves removing up to two inches of the pavement, so when crews pave over it with new asphalt, the road stays flat.
While milling and paving is taking place, sections of Broad St. will be intermittently closed to non-emergency traffic. Once the pavement is laid down, it cannot be driven on for several hours.
The Bloomfield Police Department will have personnel on these streets assisting with traffic, and will exhaust all resources to give store owners and residents advance notice. Detour signs are posted and local residents will be given access into their homes. Residents that do not live in the work area must follow the detour route.
This project is being managed by the County of Essex, Department of Public works, which can be reached at (973) 226-8500.
