Is your child’s educator a County Teacher of the Year?

Smita Dharsi, Robert Edgar, Christine Esola and Jennifer Skomial all share something in common: They are among 21 teachers in New Jersey recognized as the 2018-19 County Teachers of the Year.

This honor comes out of the Governor’s Educator of the Year Program, which acknowledges the hard work and dedication of teachers across the state. 

Panels made up of administrators, teachers, parents and members of county education associations select each County Teacher of the Year.

• Esola was chosen for Bergen County. She is a special education teacher for The Valley Program of the Northern Valley Regional High School District.
• Edgar is the choice for Passaic County. He teaches English in Grades 9 to 12 at Pompton Lakes High School.
• Dharsi represents Essex County. She teaches second grade at Edgemont Montessori School in Montclair.
• Skomial is the representative for Morris County. She teaches CTE Child Development in Grades 9 to 12 at Morris County School of Technology.

BERGEN COUNTY: Northern Valley school district offers perks to aides facing higher health care costs

The teachers honored will network with educators throughout the state and serve as ambassadors for New Jersey’s public schools.

One of them will then be chosen for New Jersey State Teacher of the Year based on written applications, video submissions and interviews, and the decision will be announced in October. That educator will go on to represent New Jersey for the title of National Teacher of the Year.
