11 Candidates — and Just One Incumbent — to Run for South Orange-Maplewood BOE

A whopping 11 candidates — including just one incumbent — are running for three seats on the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education this year.

There are nine seats on the BOE and each year, three seats come up for election; Terms are for three years. Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.

The following people have filed petitions to run, according to the Essex County Clerk’s office. (The deadline to file was Monday, July 30 at 4:30 p.m). :

  • Narda Chisholm-Greene
  • Michael Laskowski
  • Bruno J. Navarro
  • James C. Wilkes
  • Christopher Trzaska
  • Shannon Cuttle
  • Felicia George
  • Avery Julien
  • Javier A. Farfan
  • Marian Cutler

The three BOE members whose terms are ending this year are Maini, Madhu Pai and Chris Sabin.

Pai told Village Green last week that while it has been a largely fulfilling six years, “It’s time I shift my focus from all the district’s children to my own children as they enter middle and high school.”

Cuttle, George and Julien ran in last year’s election.

New Board members are sworn in January, and the full Board elects the president during the January reorganization meeting.
