Coastal Flood Advisory Issued For Eastern Essex County Thursday Night – Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Despite a recent lack of rain and statewide drought, the National Weather Service issued a statement saying there’s a potential for flooding near water in three counties on Thursday night.

“Coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. this evening to midnight,” the NWS said on Thursday morning. They expect “One to two feet of inundation above ground level in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.”

The advisory applies to Hudson, Eastern Essex and Eastern Union counties and parts of New York City.

“Minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 1 1/2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.”

In eastern Essex County, the forecast calls for “A slight chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain.”

Accuweather radar shows scattered storms southwest of the Garden State, but the rain from this morning has gone out to sea.
