2 Dead After Montclair Police Chase Ends With Crash In Glen Ridge – Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — More details have emerged about a fatal car crash that took place after a police chase in Essex County on Tuesday.

The crash took place around 4:30 a.m. in Glen Ridge after two Montclair police officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Bloomfield Avenue, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

The driver and a passenger in the car, both men, were fatally injured in the crash. Their identities – and that of a third injured person – are not being released at this time, prosecutors said.

According to a statement from prosecutors:

“Two police officers of the Montclair Police Department activated lights on their marked patrol vehicles in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The officers were in the process of attempting to stop a vehicle in connection with a criminal investigation. The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Two individuals were pronounced deceased on scene shortly after 9 a.m. A third individual is being treated for injuries.”

An investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which requires the state attorney general’s office to investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity, or while the decedent is in custody.
