NEW JERSEY — With almost all COVID restrictions in the rearview, New Jersey is set for its busiest 4th of July weekend in years. With scores of fireworks shows, parades and other events set to take place, here’s Patch’s guide to holiday festivities around the Garden State.
Atlantic County

Bellville Township’s Independence Day Celebration
- Where: Belleville Municipal Stadium

The annual 4th of July fireworks celebration sponsored by the Communities of Caldwell, Essex Fells, Roseland and West Caldwell
- Where: James Caldwell High School Baseball Field, Westville Avenue in West Caldwell.
- When: For the holiday festivities, the field gates will open at 7 p.m. July 4. Rain date is July 5.

2022 East Windsor Township Independence Day Celebration
- Where: Etra Lake Park

4th of July Jubilee – Swinging 60s at Morven
- Where: Morven Museum & Garden, Princeton

- What else to know: The celebration will feature the Arts Council of Princeton providing a Jasper Johns American Flag activity, the Historical Society of Princeton has a meaningful 1960’s Princeton adventure activity, there will be live dancing in the gardens with the Luminarium Dance Company, and live music from the 1960s and beyond, including the hit “TelStar” with the Green Planet Band. East Brunswick July 4 Fireworks Spectacular

Milltown 4th of July Parade & Fireworks
- Where: various locations in Milltown
- When: 6 a.m. July 4 beginning with the fishing derby, culminating with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
- What else to know: Events throughout the day include a pizza-eating contest, 5K and fun run, and duck race.
Independence Day Celebration South Brunswick
- Where: Crossroads Middle School
- When: 6 p.m. July 1, rain date July 8
- What else to know: the event will feature fireworks, food trucks and entertainment.
Monmouth County
Aberdeen’s annual Independence Day celebration
- Where: Veterans Memorial Park
- When: 6 p.m. July 1 for family-friendly activities, food vendors, and ice cream. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
- What else to know: Parking at Veterans Memorial Park is available for handicapped guests only, the township said. Cars may access the parking lot from the section of Ocean Boulevard that begins in Old Bridge. For all other guests, there will be a free shuttle bus running from the LA Fitness Parking Lot on Route 35 to the park starting at 5:30 p.m. The last shuttle run to the beach before the fireworks will be at 8:30 p.m.
- Where: Bucks Mill Recreation Area (137 Bucks Mill Rd., Colts Neck)
- When: 6 p.m. July 3
- The event is free to the public and will have food, drinks and snacks available.
Freehold: Independence Day Concert and Fireworks
- Where: Freehold Raceway, 130 Park Ave.
- When: 5:30 p.m. July 3
- What else to know: There will be live entertainment by the Rock & Roll Chorus, Lil Asmar & Garden State Prodigies, RockitFish. Kason Jackson will sing the Star Spangled Banner. Radio stations WRAT & WJRZ will provide music for fireworks and food vendors will be on hand. No pets, coolers or backpacks are permitted. Blankets and folding chairs are permitted.
Hazlet: Traditional Fireworks Display
- Where: Veterans Park, 1776 Union Ave.
- When: 8:30 p.m. July 2, rain date July 3
- What else to know: The fireworks go off from Veterans Park at 1776 Union Avenue in Hazlet, and can be seen in parking lots and backyards all around. Watching them with family and friends is a tradition in Hazlet. There will be food trucks at Veterans Park. Parking is available at the Swim Club Parking lot.
Matawan’s Fireworks Extravaganza
- Where: Lake Lefferts on Ravine Drive
- When: 5:30 p.m. July 3 (the road will be closed at 5 p.m., the borough said.), rain date July 8
- What else to know: pie-eating contest at 7 p.m. at the lake house, fireworks at dusk over Lake Lefferts
- Where: Oceanfront, Long Branch
- When: July 4, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with fireworks at 9 p.m.
- What else to know: After not operating for the past two years due to coronavirus, Oceanfest will return to Long Branch in the summer of 2022. Oceanfest is a live music, food truck and entertainment festival held yearly every Independence Day on the oceanfront in Long Branch. Held annually for the past 30 years now — except for the two years it did not happen due to the pandemic — it is a very popular summertime festival that attracts thousands of people from up and down the Jersey Shore.

Morris County
- Where: The parade route will begin at Tingley Road
- When: 9 a.m. July 4
- What else to know: Residents are encouraged to participate in the parade by entering a float, decorating their bikes, polishing their antique cars, or dressing their dogs in fun, patriotic attire. At the conclusion of the parade route, there will be a community celebration with activities for the entire family.
Chatham Fourth of July Parade and fireworks display
- Where: The parade will start at the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Main Street
- When: 10:30 a.m. July 4
- What else to know: On July 4, the mayor and council will raise the flag and inspect the fire department at the Borough Firehouse at 9:15 a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Main Street at 10:30 a.m. and will proceed down Main Street to Chatham Middle School.
- Where: Chatham Middle School, 480 Main St.
- When: 7 p.m. July 4
- What else to know: The gates will open at 7 p.m., and the public is invited to enjoy musical entertainment by New Jersey’s premier vintage rock and soul band, The Star Band, prior to the fireworks.
- Where: Hamilton Field, 302 E McFarlan St.
- When: gates open at 6 p.m. July 1, rain date July 2
- What else to know: Food will be available for purchase, and seating will be limited to the bleachers or track. Local resident “DJ ALEX” Gomez will spin some tunes.
July Fourth Celebration at Morristown National Historical Park
- Where: Washington’s Headquarters, 30 Washington Pl., Morristown
- When: activities begin at noon July 4
- What else to know: After a “Warm-Up for the Declaration,” a reading of the Declaration of Independence will begin at 1 p.m. Following the reading, the Ford Mansion will be open for self-guided tours, with re-enactors in period dress bringing life to the mansion.
- Where: Launched From Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, 75 North Bertrand Road, Mt. Arlington
- When: July 1, approximately 9:30 (rain date July 9)
- What else to know: The fireworks in Lake Hopatcong are being launched from the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, with the club having hosted its yearly display since the 1950s. Residents around and visitors to the state’s largest lake, like to drop their anchors for a view within the yacht club; or at restaurants on the water.
- Where: Mosle Field, Mosle Preserve Rd.
- When: 6 p.m. July 1
- What else to know: Enjoy an evening of live music, food trucks, a bounce house, giveaways, and arts and crafts for children. After sunset, the fireworks will be on full display, so bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The gates open at 6:00 p.m., so arrive early for a good parking spot.
- Where: Parsippany Hills High School
- When: July 4: Hometown band Overboard will take the stage at about 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will start at dark — typically around 9:30 p.m.
Ocean County
- Where: Barnegat High School
- When: July 9
Beachwood’s Fireworks Over the Toms River
- Where: Beachwood Beach, and beaches in Pine Beach, Ocean Gate and Island Heights along the Toms River.
- When: July 4, at dark
- Where: Windward Beach Park, Princeton Avenue
- When: 6:30 p.m. July 7
- What else to know: The second concert of the township’s popular summer series falls a few days after the Fourth of July weekend with fireworks at the end of the concert.
- Where: First Energy Park, Lakewood
- When: July 4, after the baseball game
Jenkinson’s Independence Day Fireworks
- Where: Boardwalk, Point Pleasant Beach
- When: dusk, July 4
Lacey: live music and fireworks
- Where: Lacey Township High School
- When: July 5 with rain date of July 6. Music at 7:30 p.m., fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
- What else to know: Shallow Green will provide entertainment before the fireworks display. Bring your own chairs.
Lakehurst July 4th Celebration
- Where: Lake Horicon, Union Avenue
- When: 2-9 p.m. July 3
- What else to know: The borough is celebrating its 100th Anniversary with an afternoon and evening full of fun that ends with fireworks.
Lavallette Patriotic Bicycle Parade
- Where: 1200 Oceanfront, Lavallette
- When: 9 a.m. July 2
- What else to know: The borough’s Independence Day Patriotic Bike Parade returns to the boardwalk. The parade starting point is Philadelphia Avenue and Oceanfront.
- Where: Lavallette Gazebo, Bay Boulevard
- When: 8 p.m. July 3
- What else to know: The borough’s patriotic concert and fireworks will fill the air with music and light.
Long Beach Island fireworks display
- Where: Taylor Ave Ball Field, Beach Haven
- When: July 4
Mantoloking Yacht Club Fourth of July Festivities
- Where: Mantoloking Yacht Club, 1228 Bay Ave.
- When: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 4
- What else to know: The yacht club is hosting a Fourth of July celebration that is open to the public. There’s a 1-mile run to kick off the day, children’s games, a flag-raising ceremony, and the day ends with the Henry Barton Memorial sailboat race. The yacht club grill will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Seaside Heights Fourth of July Fireworks
- Where: Boardwalk, Seaside Heights
- When: 9:30 p.m. July 4
- What else to know: Fireworks return to Seaside Heights this summer every Thursday, but there’s an additional 30-minute fireworks display scheduled for the Fourth of July.
Passaic County
- Where: Wayne Hills High School
- When: gates open at 6 p.m. July 3 (rain date July 6)
Somerset County
Somerset County’s Annual July 4th Fireworks Display
- Where: North Branch Park on Milltown Road in Bridgewater
- When: 9:30 p.m. July 4, Gates open at 6 p.m.
- What to know: The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Visitors should plan to arrive early. Milltown Road will be closed at about 9 p.m. Heavy car and foot traffic is expected.’
- Where: Liberty State Park to board ferry, then onto Liberty Island (address is 1 Audrey Zapp Dr., Jersey City)
- When: July 4. Check-ins open at 5 a.m. before a 6:45 a.m. ferry departure. The race starts at 7:15 a.m.
Union County
- Where: Municipal Building, 430 Westfield Ave.
- When: 7:30 p.m. July 4 for a live DJ, food and novelties; 9 p.m. fireworks
Cranford: Independence Celebration at Nomahegan Park
- Where: Nomahegan Park
- When: July 2: 5 p.m. for food vendors and inflatables, followed by 9:15 p.m. fireworks
- What else to know: There will be limited parking at Union County College located on 1033 Springfield Ave. Residents are urged to walk.
Scotch Plains: Independence Day Fireworks Celebration
- Where: Shady Rest Country Clubhouse
- When: 7 p.m. July 2
Summit’s 75th annual Fourth of July celebration
- Where: Soldiers Memorial Field, 5 Myrtle Ave.
- When: July 4: flag-raising ceremony at noon, followed by a decorated bicycle parade for children at 12:15 p.m. Entertainment will include concerts and a magic show, beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until 9 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.
- What else to know: The walking track, playground, tennis courts and lower fields at Memorial Field will close at 12 p.m. to prepare for the fireworks display. Roads adjacent to the field will close to vehicle traffic at 6 p.m. The parking lot on Ashland Road next to the Memorial Field tennis courts will be closed all day on July 4.
