Camping, Waterfalls, and White Water Rafting: Nutley Boy Scouts Make Summer 2018 Memorable
NUTLEY, NJ – The Boy Scouts of Nutley Troop 147 are not familiar with the concept of ‘Summertime, and the living is easy’ – so far they have gone swimming in waterfalls and have gone white water rafter and they have more planned this season.
The scouts recently backpacked to Vernooy Falls in the Catskills for a chance to swim in the four tiered waterfalls there. Afterwards, the Scouts camped for the night before heading home to Nutley.
Days later they traveled to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania to raft down the Lehigh River. The river has class 1 and 2 rapids. The scouts, and the leaders spent part of their river journey tossing buckets of water into any raft that paddled close to them. The troop was led by Scoutmaster Al Welenofsky and four fathers who accompanied the Scouts.
Later this month the troop will head off to summer camp at Camp Somers at the Mount Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope MJ..
