18 Wanted Fugitives Apprehended In Essex County: NJ State Police – Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — State troopers in New Jersey arrested 18 wanted fugitives in Essex County during a four-day crackdown in late February, police announced Monday.

According to the NJ State Police, the operation took place from Feb. 24 to Feb. 27. A total of 18 fugitives wanted by state, county and local law enforcement agencies were apprehended “at various locations in and around the City of Newark.”

The arrestees have been accused of crimes including murder, aggravated assault, aggravated manslaughter, armed robbery, aggravated sexual assault, terroristic threats and burglary, as well as weapons and drug offenses, police said.

All of the 18 arrestees – who include seven “documented street gang members” – were transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility, police said.

Detectives from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, Violent and Organized Crime Control North Bureau, K-9 North Unit, Real Time Crime Center North Unit, and Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory Unit, along with members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, the New Jersey Department of Corrections Special Operations Group, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Essex County Sheriff’s Office and the Newark Police Department collaborated on the investigation.
