MGA 63rd “Ike” Stroke Play Championship

June 25-26 (54 holes)

At Meadow Brook C, Jericho, N.Y.

Storyline: Former New Jersey Amateur titlist Thomas La Morte of Haworth and reigning state Mid-Amateur champ Trevor Randolph of Arcola are among the Garden State heavyweights in this field of more than 130. La Morte tied for second at last year’s 54-hole event. More than 40 players will represent the Garden State, including Matt Mattare of Darlington, who also tied for second last year. Also expected to fare well from New Jersey: Reid Bedell of Manasquan River, Sam Goldenring of Brooklake, Michael Graboyes of Watchung Valley, Dawson Jones of Jumping Brook, Chris Gotterup of Rumson and John Felitto of Echo Lake, all of whom cracked last year’s top 15. The defending champ in this Metropolitan Golf Association event is Matthew Lowe of Colonial Springs.

NJSGA 64th Junior Girls’ and 48th Boys championships

At Neshanic Valley GC, Branchburg

Storyline: Ami Gianchandani of Watchung Valley is among the contenders in a field of more than 40 girls. Gianchandani is a four-time first-team All-State pick by the New Jersey Section PGA and last month helped Pingry win the NJSIAA team title. Also capable of contending in this New Jersey State Golf Association event is the Bergen County trio of Yoona Kim of Edgewood, Sun Hwang of Overpeck, and Gio Kim of Darlington, as well as Anna Bowman of Suburban, Christine Shao of New Jersey National and Megha Ganne of Colts Neck. In the Boys, Joaquin Matt of Plainfield West 9 is among the contenders.

Storyline: Greg Baker of Rockaway River, Lou Kubisa of Knob Hill, Ryan Fountaine of Baltusrol, Scott Paris of Plainfield and Mark Yannotta of Anchor are among the club pros expected to qualify in a field of more than 100 at Mendham. At Glenwood, the top club pros in a field of more than 80 include Corey Brigham of Liberty National, Dave Laudien of Howell Park and Mark DeLaura of Montammy.
