It was a grim discovery for drivers and police alike when they saw a man on the side of a major Atlantic County highway.

Egg Harbor Police said that they responded around 7:21 am Monday morning to the eastbound shoulder of the Black Horse Pike near the Oak Tree Plaza in the Farmington section of town on a report of an unconscious and unresponsive man.

The responding police officers saw a deceased man on the grassy area by the roadway who has since been identified as 42-year old Joseph Richardson II of Landisville, New Jersey.

While the initial investigation led police to believe there were no obvious signs of foul play, they continue to look into how this man passed away.

Egg Harbor Police Detectives Michael Santoro, Richard Vogt and Katrina Cantell are investigating the death.
