Joseph Dwyer approved as Coordinator of Social Studies K-12 for Nutley Public Schools
NUTLEY, NJ – Mr. Joseph Dwyer was approved as the Coordinator of Social Studies, K-12, for the Nutley Public Schools at the Board of Education meeting on May 21, 2018. He will begin his role on July 1, 2018.
Mr. Dwyer fills this role upon the retirement of Mr. Robert O’Dell, who has been with the district for 37 years. His retirement is effective June 30, 2018.
In his new role, Mr. Dwyer will be responsible for oversight of the district’s social studies curriculum, instruction and assessment for all grades K-12. He will oversee the department’s faculty and implement content-specific professional development.
Prior to this role, Mr. Dwyer was appointed Coordinator of Instructional Technology for the district in January 2018. Mr. Dwyer, a product of the Nutley Public Schools, has been a social studies teacher at Nutley High School since 2007. He taught Advanced Placement and Honors United States History. He has also been published in several academic journals including, New York History and the New England Journal of History. Dwyer was a member of the district’s Evaluation Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Council for Social Studies. Additionally, he has been a teacher leader in the use and integration of technology.
