Trick-or-treating moved to Thursday in Caldwell; more events planned – New Jersey Hills

Trick-or-treating and other Halloween events are planned this weekend in western Essex County.

Children will be permitted to trick-or-treat from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at businesses on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. The date was changed because of expected rainstorms Friday, Oct. 29.

At 7 p.m. Friday, the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell has scheduled hold an outdoor scary movie night in the Old Burial Ground. ring a chair or blanket and please maintain social distancing. “The Sixth Sense,” rated PG-13, will be shown.

Halloween Parade

The annual Halloween Parade and Fall Festival, sponsored by the Grover Cleveland Park Conservancy, will be Saturday, Oct. 30.

From 10 a.m. to noon, there will be costume parades for children as well as a haunted house, a skeleton egg hunt, balloon artists, painting, prizes and hot cider.

The rain date is Sunday morning, Oct. 31.

Haunted Halls

On Saturday afternoon, Essex Lodge #7 presents its fifth annual Haunted Halls Trick-or-Treat event, which is free and open to the public from noon to 4 p.m.

Bring trick-or-treat bags and wear costumes. There will be free pizza and spooky games.

The costume parade and contest begins at 2 p.m. so participants are asked to arrive by 1:30 p.m. Gift cards will be awarded in various categories.

Trunk or Treats

Roseland and West Caldwell will hold Trunk or Treats on Saturday.

Decorated vehicles will hand out candy at noon on Harrison Avenue in Roseland. Car owners and children were required to register on Community Pass by Wednesday, Oct. 27 to participate.

A Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat are planned in the parking lot of James Caldwell High School, 265 Westville Ave., West Caldwell, hosted by the West Caldwell-Caldwell Recreation Department and the West Caldwell Police Department.

The costume parade begins at 5 p.m. so participants should arrive by 4:45 p.m. Trunk or treating is from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Decorated cars are eligible for a “Best Decorated” prize.

Trick-or-Treating

The Fairfield Recreation Department will offer trick-or-treating along Hollywood Avenue, in front of the Recreation Complex, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31.

Also on Sunday, Woonton Road, the most popular place for trick-or-treating in Essex Fells, will be closed to traffic. Police officers will be there to direct cars.

Fairfield said all parks in the township will be closed to the public starting at 8 p.m. until dawn Saturday and Sunday. The parks will resume normal hours at dawn Monday, Nov. 1.
