David G. Hill, Sr., Former Verona Police Officer & First Responder – MyVeronaNJ – My veronanj


Mr. David G. Hill, Sr., 69, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021 at his home in Verona, surrounded by his loving family.

Visiting (which is open to the public) will be in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Monday, August 30 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Facial masks and social distancing are requested. The funeral service and interment will be private.

Born in Montclair, Mr. Hill was a lifelong resident of Verona. He attended Verona High School and completed police officer training at the Essex County Police Academy.

He was an officer for the Verona Police Department for 26 years, retiring in 2004 as a sergeant. Public service was an integral part of his life and he served on the Verona Volunteer Fire Department and Verona Rescue Squad for many years. He was also a member of the Verona P.B.A. Local 72 and Our Lady of the Lake Church.

His favorite pastimes were fishing on his boat and spending time with his grandkids who affectionately called him “Poppie” or “Pop”.

Mr. Hill was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert A. and Jean E. (nee McCance) Hill.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Josephine A. (nee Cetrulo) Hill; loving children, David G. Hill, Jr. and his wife Melissa, and Kristine DePoe and her husband, Shawn; cherished grandchildren Kyle Hill, Kori DePoe and Jake DePoe; and sister, Judith Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Jersey Firemen’s Home, 565 Lathrop Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005 would be appreciated.
