Beyond Speed Bumps! Alternatives for Traffic Calming: Free Conference June 9 at Seton Hall University
South Orange Neighborhoods Association (SONA) in conjunction with South Orange Seniors and North Jersey Neighborhoods Connected (NJNC) will be sponsoring “BEYOND SPEED BUMPS – Alternatives for Traffic Calming,” a free conference at Seton Hall University on June 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Not every town can afford to put in a speed bump! And they can’t do it on every street! So here we offer a free seminar of experienced speakers with insightful presentations to prompt ideas about traffic calming, safety and alternative methods for slowing traffic. Creative initiatives often start at grass-roots levels: from intersection painting to street redesign.
Four speakers from New Jersey will explore out-of-the-box ideas concerning traffic calming:
COMMUNITY STREETS – Cyndi Steiner (from New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition)
HOW FAST IS “TOO FAST?” – Arnold Anderson (from Essex County Traffic Safety)
THE BIOSWALE AS TRAFFIC CALMING DEVICE – Jeremiah Bergstrom (from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program)
STREET QUILTING – Laura Torchio (from Project for Public Spaces) and Kimberli Craft

The event will take place at the Ground Floor Meeting Room, Walsh Library, at Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Avenue in South Orange.
