Oyin Owolabi Fills Vacancy at the Millburn Board of Education

MILLBURN, NJ – The Millburn Board of Education has selected Oyin Owolabi to fill the seat vacated by Michael King’s resignation due to relocation.  Owolabi will be sworn in at the Board of Education meeting on June 4.  She will serve as a member of the Board of Education from June 4 through December 31, 2018. 

The position will be placed on the ballot at the annual election in November 2018 to fulfill the remainder of the term for one-year (January 2019 to December 2019). There will also be three open seats for three-year terms on the Board of Education on the ballot in November.  Candidate petitions must be filed with the Essex County Clerk by Monday, July 30, 2018. The Board received letters of interest from six candidates: Millburn residents Steven Green, Cori Haase, Danielle Prieto, Cathy Rooney, David Schlossman, and Owolabi, and heard statements from five of them at the May 7 and May 21 Board of Education meetings.

The Board selected Owolabi for her continuing interest in serving on the Board of Education, having run for a seat in November 2017, coming in 4^th in a very close 4-way race.  Owolabi has three children in the school district, one at Washington School and two at Wyoming.  She is a Clinical Project Manager for a pharmaceutical company. In her letter of interest Owolabi stated, “I want to continue to support the efforts of the board, the school administrators and all the PTO organizations in ensuring that our children have the best possible school experience that fully prepares them for the very competitive world they will be entering.”
