Roxbury Community to Run Miles, Get Colorful for Matt
ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury Rotary and Interact Clubs are inviting everyone to participate in the upcoming 5th Annual Color Fun Run, hoping to raise $20,000 to benefit Roxbury 4th grader Matt Adonis who is being treated for a brain tumor.
The event takes place Sunday at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna.
Matt is a student at Nixon Elementary School who is dedicated to hockey and lacrosse. The 10-year-old has been in and out of the hospital and not been able to be in the classroom with his friends or on the fields with his teammates. Matt has endured numerous MRIs, surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to make sure he’s on the road to recovery.
After experiencing the difficulties of going through cancer treatment, Matt started “Cheers from Matt” in which he creates goody bags of candy to spread smiles to children fighting cancer. Matt’s mother, Alyssa Adonis, said their family is “so unbelievably grateful to the community for all their love, support, prayers and generosity.”
We are calling upon Roxbury and the surrounding communities to help Matt in his battle. 100 percent of the proceeds from the 2018 Roxbury Rotary/Interact Club Color Fun Run will be going directly to aid Matt’s family in paying their medical bills.
“Even on our toughest days, the love of our community, family and friends lifts us up and helps us keep moving forward,” said Adonis. Our goal is to not only aid the Adonis family by alleviating their medical bills, but also lifting their spirits in one of their toughest times.
When asked what the community support makes him feel, Matt replied with one word: “Special.”
The Color Fun Run is not timed and walking is allowed. Do you have small children? They can ride their bikes through the color. It’s a great event for all ages.
At the conclusion of the walk/run/ride, there will be complimentary refreshments sponsored by Jersey Mike’s Subs and Cliff’s Ice Cream.
“Found Vegas,” a band from Essex County, will be performing at the bandshell. Playa Bowls of Morristown will also be at the event with a pop-up stand that will be an extra charge, but serves as a fundraiser for the Adonis family.
Registration begins at 9 am. The race steps off at 10 am. Pre-sale tickets are $25 and can be purchased online, at Valley Pharmacy or the Roxbury Recreation Department through May 18. Teams, groups and organizations of 10 or more can receive a reduced ticket price of $20 by emailing cgraf19@students.roxbury.org. Tickets are available at the event for $30. The first 400 registrants receive a free T-shirt.
Don’t miss out on this fun event for a deserving family as we rally together to show what the Roxbury community is all about!
