N.J. man charged with sexually assaulting, kidnapping child in North Carolina – NJ.com

A 39-year-old New Jersey man facing child pornography charges in Essex County has been charged with sexually assaulting a child in North Carolina.

Jonathan E. Trumble, of Cedar Grove, is charged with two counts of statutory rape, statutory sex offense, indecent liberties with a child and kidnapping, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Trumble is being held on $1 million bond after being brought to the Iredell County Detention Center from New Jersey on June 11, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.

The investigation began in March 2019 when a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office regarding inappropriate messages being sent to a child. Officials there learned the messages were sent from Cedar Grove. That July, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office charged Trumble with possession of child pornography and engaging in sexually explicit communications and exchanging images with a 13-year-old child. TapInto.net reported on the arrest.

Those charges are still pending in Essex County, according to court records.

Then in May of this year, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office uncovered new evidence, spoke to a victim and obtained several search warrants.

Cedar Grove police confirmed they arrested Trumble and brought him to the Essex County jail to await extradition to North Carolina.

Cedar Grove police declined to comment further on the case.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
