Unlocked cars with keys inside looted, one stolen in Jackson – 943thepoint.com

Jackson Police have issued examples 99, 100, 101, etc. combined with other law enforcement agencies near and far as to why you should lock your cars and bring your keys inside your house, apartment, whatever.

A woman on Highland Drive, who spotted two men trying to take off in her car, which was parked in her driveway, was able to yell out the window to chase them off.

A man on Kingfisher Court wasn’t so luck as his Lexus was already gone.

In both cases, which took place before the sun was up on Monday morning, Jackson Police said that the cars were unlocked with the keys inside the vehicles.

Police responded around 4:06 am to the Highland Drive home on a report of a burglary and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

It was around 3:56 pm that a woman called police after hearing her car start up, watching as two men dressed in all black and wearing masks walked up her driveway with one stepping the vehicle.

She told police she yelled at the intruders and they fled the area in a white SUV.

They did leave her key behind though, in the driveway. It was found by the burglars in the center console of her car.

Police then responded to a residence on Kingfisher Court  around 5:03 am on the report of a stolen motor vehicle, a 2017 Lexus RX350, that had been stolen from his driveway.

He woke up to seeing brake lights and when he went outside, he discovered that his Lexus was stolen.

Police took a look at video surveillance and said they saw what appeared to be a “white SUV with a black top, possibly a Range Rover stopped in the street.”

“A passenger who appears to be wearing a hooded sweatshirt and face mask exits the vehicle and enters his vehicle and starts it. The car is backed down the driveway where another passenger exits the waiting SUV and gets into the Lexus before both vehicles leave the area.”

Like many other police departments, Jackson Police are asking you to remove your keys and valuables from your vehicle and lock them up, “even if parked in your own driveway.”
