Former Asbury Hotel General Manager indicted for embezzling $400000 – 943thepoint.com
A former General Manager at the Asbury Hotel has been indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on the charge of theft after he allegedly stole more than $400,000 from his employer between 2018 and 2020, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced on Monday.
Larry Dembrun, 41, of Montclair, who was initially charged in September of 2020 following his arrest by Asbury Park Police and the MCPO, was fired from his position for embezzling the money that was discovered during a routine audit of the businesses books.
In addition to his role as a general manager of the Asbury Hotel he also oversaw the Asbury Lanes and the Asbury Ocean Club.
Hotel executives informed Asbury Park Police of their discovery which included information act Dembrun wrote out a series of checks to pay a personal credit card bill as well as writing some for himself and to certain members of the hotel staff.
Investigators combed through the hotel’s books as well as his personal bank accounts and tallied up Dembrun’s embezzlement funds to more than $486,000.00 he stole from the company.
Acting Prosecutor Linskey also explained that in the midst of Dembrun’s writing and issuing illegal checks, he withdrew cash from the operating account, then deposited the money into his personal account.
He also didn’t deposit cash receipts from the hotel’s entertainment venue and instead kept them for himself.
If convicted of second degree theft, Dembrun faces up to ten years in prison.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Diane Aifer.
Dembrun is represented by Richard E. Incremona, Esq., of Freehold.
