Toms River Police issue curfew for the summer in northern beach section – wobm.com

Toms River Police have issued a 10:00 pm curfew in place for the summer season starting now and running through Labor Day along the northern beach section of town, specifically Normandy Beach and Chadwick Beach, in an effort to prevent any late night mischief.

This curfew mirrors what Toms River Police issued last summer and for the same reasons including to curb and prevent and unruly behavior, mainly criminal mischief and yelling of obscenities, mostly among the youth.

“Last summer we began experiencing a significant increase in the number of unruly juveniles congregating and committing offenses in the northern beach section of town,” Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina said in a statement. “In response to the ongoing issues a curfew was established for the summer months and will continue this summer. We will be dedicating additional resources to address any potential issues.”

Toms River Police had issued several warnings and urged those responsible for late night criminal mischief including destruction of property and trespassing, to stop and stay home.

When asking nicely didn’t work, a curfew was put into affect along with the Toms River OEM, which didn’t anyone under 17 to be wandering around on any public street, avenue, boulevard, place, walkway, alley, park, or any public area or unimproved private property in this area but between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.

The only acceptation was if they were accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.

To prevent teens from the area or coming to the area from even being dropped off and later committing any troubling or illegal behavior, TRPD is issuing a notice now before the summer of 2021 really kicks off.

“The Toms River Police Department is committed to protecting the residents of our community as well as their property and will not tolerate disrespectful or destructive behavior,” Messina said. “We are requesting parents from neighboring jurisdictions not drop their children off into this area.”

That being said, Toms River Police will also have added patrols along this section of town as well looking out for criminal mischief and related activity as well as motor vehicle infractions and distracted driving.

A heightened police presence will be in effect and there will be zero tolerance, for all offenses including motor vehicle infractions.
