Essex County to Host Vaccination Event at Turtle Back Zoo on June 5 – TAPinto.net

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Essex County residents who receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination during an even being held at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will also receive a voucher for free entry to the zoo that can be used through Sept. 1. 

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. announced the “I Got Vaccinated at Turtle Back Zoo!” initiative earlier this week, stating that he hopes free admission will serve as “an incentive for some people who are hesitant to get vaccinated.”

“Significant progress has been made to get the public vaccinated for COVID-19; however, more work must be done to get at least 70% of the population vaccinated so herd immunity can occur,” said DiVincenzo. “Turtle Back Zoo is a popular family destination, and getting vaccinated is the best way to protect our loved ones from contracting the virus.”

Visitors are eligible to receive a voucher if they receive either their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine at the Turtle Back Zoo. There is no appointment necessary to receive a vaccine, and the voucher can be used during normal zoo hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. 

People ages 18 and older are eligible to receive the J&J vaccine. People ages 12 and older are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.

Although there is no out-of-pocket cost to receive the vaccine, Essex County reserves the right to bill insurance carriers a $40 fee for each dose of the vaccine. The cost of the vaccine will be covered by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Fund for visitors who do not have medical insurance.

Tickets to enter the zoo are $17 for adults, $14 for senior citizens over 62 and children ages 2 to 12, and free for children under two years old. To promote social distancing, tickets must be purchased in advance BY CLICKING HERE.
