Man arrested after infant Amber Alert faces robbery, child endangerment charges, cops say – NJ.com

The man who triggered a statewide Amber Alert Monday when he fled in his car with a 17-day-old infant from East Orange faces multiple charges including robbery and child endangerment, officials said Tuesday.

Damion Payne, 27, was arrested after police issued the alert for the baby girl. He also faces a weapons possession charge, East Orange officials said. Additional details about the charges were not immediately available.

Payne and the baby were last seen about 12:45 p.m. on Lindsley Place, according to New Jersey State Police.

The infant was found unhurt about 3:30 p.m. and reunited with her mother, according to East Orange officials.

“Thank you to our officers in the (local police department), New Jersey State Police, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and surrounding law enforcement partners for their swift response and mutual cooperation in locating baby safe and sound and allowing us to reunite her with her mother,” East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi said in an email.
