Monmouth County Corrections Officer charged with shoplifting – wobm.com

A Monmouth County Corrections Officer has found herself in trouble with the law and has been suspended as a result of her actions.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni announced Thursday that Suzanne Simone, 53, of Ocean Township and a 22-year veteran of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, is being charged with third degree shoplifting after failing to pay for items multiple times at a home improvement store in West Long Branch.

Simone allegedly “skip scanned” items where she would scan several small items and not large items or just pretend to scan the items and end up leaving the store without paying for them.

On one occasion, she was wearing her uniform while committing the theft.

She is accused of stealing $661 worth of items, Some of which were later recovered from her residence.

“No one is above the law,” Gramiccioni said in a statement. “It is essential to our criminal justice system that officers maintain the public’s trust. This officer broke the law that she was sworn to uphold, all over a measly $600. This conduct will not be tolerated and is a stain on the men and women in law enforcement who work tirelessly to serve their communities with honor.”

“Any member of law enforcement who violates their oath does a disservice to the public and their fellow officers, and will be held fully accountable,” Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said in a statement.

If you have any additional information on these thefts, you’re asked to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Greg Hilton at 1-800-533-7443.
