N.J. weather: Early snowfall totals across the state as our latest winter storm lingers – NJ.com

UPDATE: Up to 2 more inches of snow, freezing rain Friday. ‘If it looks wet, assume it’s icy,’ forecasters warn

With all the snow we’ve gotten this month, what’s another 6 inches? Or 8, or 10?

That’s how much snow has piled up in some areas of New Jersey on Thursday, thanks to the latest winter storm to roll across our region in what has been a highly active weather pattern in February.

Heavy bands of snow pounded many towns in Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth counties early Thursday morning, blanketing those areas with a half-foot of snow in just a few hours, according to early reports from the National Weather Service.

Although the heaviest bands have moved away, scattered snow showers — sometimes mixed with sleet or freezing rain — are expected to continue on and off Thursday evening and overnight, adding another inch or two to the already messy roads before the storm system finally winds down Friday afternoon or Friday evening.
