Essex County NJ Republican Women Celebrate 100th Anniversary – Patch.com

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — With a nod to one of their 2021 priorities, “civic education,” the Essex County NJ Republican Women will be holding a Lincoln Day Dinner fundraiser to help celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Incoming president Carol Gallentine of Roseland kicked off her term with the announcement of the group’s fundraiser, which takes place on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Calandra’s Mediterranean Grill in Fairfield. (Learn more here)

“This is a wonderful occasion to observe an Essex County NJ Republican Women tradition and have some fun,” Gallentine said. “Plus, it’s a FUNdraiser … helping to further our Republican values and sustain all our future endeavors that focus around the U.S. Constitution and the healthy, positive civic education of adults and children.”

The organization recently welcomed its newly elected officers for 2021: vice president Maureen Edelson of Montclair, secretary Tammy Rossi of Nutley, and treasurer Mary Waugh of Verona.

According to a news release from the group:

“Essex County NJ Republican Women and Essex County Colored Republican Women were started 100 years ago as the women’s suffrage movement secured the vote for all U.S. citizens. These clubs smartly harnessed civic power to help send the first women and blacks to the New Jersey legislature in 1920 (Alexander of Orange, Laird of Newark & Van Ness of East Orange). In the clubs’ current, unified era, civic education is seen as the organization’s top priority for 2021.”
