ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The coronavirus has taken a grim toll on Essex County. And the virus continues to ravage the area, according to updated COVID-19 statistics.
The White House Coronavirus Task Force said that Essex County was among nine New Jersey counties in the “red zone” when it came to the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak in November.
Red zones have more than 100 new cases per 100,000 residents and a diagnostic test positivity result of above 10 percent. READ MORE: 9 NJ Counties In Red Zone, White House Coronavirus Task Force Says
As of Thursday, Essex County led the entire state in cumulative COVID-19 cases at 36,082. Essex County also had the most confirmed deaths linked to the disease at 2,007, according to statistics from the New Jersey Department of Health.
