Goat Rescued In Montclair; New Kid On The Block Goes Home – Montclair, NJ Patch
MONTCLAIR, NJ — The new kid on the block has gone home.
A pet pygmy goat is back with its grateful family after being rescued with open arms, the Montclair Township Animal Shelter reported earlier this week.
The saga started when a well-meaning bystander found the goat near Mount Hebron Road and Grove Street on Monday afternoon. “Anyone know this cutie?” shelter staff asked.
After being taken to the Montclair shelter, staff and volunteers were faced with a small problem – they didn’t have any of the things they needed to care for a goat.
“This is not an animal that comes into an NJ suburban shelter on a regular basis,” said Elizabeth Morgan, the shelter’s director.
“We have supplies for dogs and cats along with some ‘pocket pet’ supplies, maybe a couple glass tanks for reptiles or fish,” Morgan wrote. “I can tell you with certainty … we did not have any ‘goat supplies’ handy.”
But undaunted, the shelter team sprang into action and pulled together to “make the little girl comfortable,” Morgan said.
“This is what a shelter should be,” Morgan added. “Thank you to our community for always helping us, to help them.”
The good vibes continued when the goat was finally returned to its family, who offered a message of thanks to the shelter.
They wrote:
“Thank G-d we are grateful that our pet pygmy goat has been returned and reunited with us and her fellow kid. We are grateful to the wonderful couple who rescued the goat and cared for it and transferred it to the care of the Montclair Animal Shelter. We are amazed at the loving care the shelter provided and how they adapted their shelter to provide proper food and a proper setting. Thank you to all who searched for her and for those who so lovingly took care of her.”
The family added:
“You become improved from taking care of animals. We have gained so much from caring for these two affectionate and intelligent pets. They provide incredible healing for our neighborhood and are a focal point for the children and adults who have suffered so much from the tragic isolation of our times. Their names are Prince Charming the Fifth and Tzigy, otherwise known as Chocolate and Vanilla. Tzigy is the one just returned.”
