E-Waste Recycling Event In Newark: Dispose Of Old TVs, Computers – Newark, NJ Patch

NEWARK, NJ — A free electronic waste recycling day will take place in Newark from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The event will take place at Elwood Park between Summer Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, and will be free of charge. Learn more here.

According to organizers, Newark residents can recycle old TVs, computers, laptops, printers, phones, small household appliances and other e-waste. Items must not include freon or oil (no refrigerators, air conditioners, oil filled space heaters, or other such items). There will be staff on hand to help unload and properly sort all collected e-waste.

Attendees must follow the following guidelines:

• Only one person per vehicle
• Face mask mandatory
• Display license ID through closed car window
• Items for disposal to be placed in trunk
• No containers or boxes will be returned

The event is being hosted by Panasonic in partnership with the City of Newark, Covanta and the Urban Renewal Corp.

“Providing Newark residents with an opportunity to properly discard their electronic waste and, in some cases, repurpose it for someone else to use, is energizing for us,” said David Thompson, the director of Panasonic’s corporate environmental department.

“We realize e-waste collections have slowed due to the pandemic, so we’re proud to lead the way in getting these important recycling efforts resumed,” Thompson said.

Since 2014, Panasonic, along with its community partners, has managed to safely recycle more than 140,000 pounds of electronic waste in Newark.
