Students at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA continue to enjoy seasonal outdoor activities with Kirby’s very own pumpkin patch. Classrooms took turns exploring an on-site field filled with more than 100 pumpkins and sorting through them to find the perfect one.
To maintain the health and safety of all and provide as much normalcy as possible during these challenging times, the Center created a field of pumpkins in lieu of the field trip many of the classrooms would have taken this season. Bringing the pumpkins to Kirby offered all students an opportunity to explore and get into the spirit just in time for Halloween.
Fall decorations adorned the classrooms as students painted, carved or read more about seasonal harvests before bringing their pumpkins home for family enjoyment. Center Director Karé Matrisciano explained, “With many things happening differently due to new guidelines, it’s important to ensure the students can enjoy the same opportunities and all the little things they so enjoy. We maintain as much normalcy as possible for them by creating new and innovative approaches, such as with onsite “field trips” like pumpkin picking this season at Kirby”.
