Registered Sex Offender in Wayne Charged with Possession of Child Pornography – TAPinto.net

WAYNE, NJ – Wayne resident and registered sex offender Robert Klemt will be going before U.S. Magistrate Judge, James B. Clark 111 this afternoon after being charged with one count of possession of child pornography, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:, in June 2020, investigative agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security approached Klemt at his Wayne residence after receiving information suggesting that Klemt had accessed a website containing child pornography. Over 70 images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children were subsequently found on Klemt’s laptop. 

In his announcement, Carpnenito said that Klemt was previously convicted of endangering the welfare of a child/distribution of child pornography in Essex County in 2014.

“The charge of possession of child pornography, for a repeat offender, carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, a maximum of 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine,” said Carpenito.

The U.S. Attorney credited special agents with Homeland Security, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jason J. Molina, with the investigation leading to the charges.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Barnes of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Newark.
