A 4-year-old boy was hospitalized after the child fell from a sixth floor window Friday in Newark, authorities said.

The child was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital after the fall on Oxford Street, near Raymond Boulevard, according to Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara.

Police were called to a report of an injured child around 2:20 p.m. and found the boy unresponsive, O’Hara said.

The police division’s special victims unit was investigating, according to O’Hara, who said state child protection officials also responded.

Officials did not immediately release more information.
