Weehawken Residents Claim Access to Weehawken Pool Could Be a Safety Issue

jc pool

We previously reported on active negotiations regarding Hoboken residents gaining access to the community pool in Weehawken. We received a communication from a local biking advocacy group that shed further light on additional Weehawken pool issues: safety concerns that come from accessing the pool itself.

“While the facilities are open and residents can access them, it is unsafe to get to the pool for many residents because there is no protected bike lane or a widened sidewalk,” Bike Weehawken’s Ryan Emge told Hoboken Girl. “This route where the pool is located is on a high crash corridor, according to the NJ highway data. Currently, residents are forced to bike and walk on a narrow sidewalk to and from the pool, and it’s to the breaking point with the volume of residents using this route. Expanding access to residents outside of Weehawken would be a non-starter unless a protected bike lane and widened sidewalk are installed.”
