29th Annual Montclair African-American Heritage Parade and Festival to Take Place on June 2.
MONTCLAIR, NJ – Montclair African American Heritage Foundation announced its line up for the 29th Annual Montclair African-American Heritage Parade and Festival to take place on June 2.
For the past 29 years, the MAAHF has continued to plant seed in making sure that the contributions made by locals as well as those that have made an impact in the township of Montclair. This year the foundation celebrates Montclair Grass Roots and Montclair Child Development Center (Montclair Head Start) as its Grand Marshals.
In celebrating these two great organizations, we look to see many of its past and present attendees to line the streets along the parade route to salute these two worthy organizations.
Following the 10:30 am parade, the festival will start at 12pm with the traditional pouring of the libations and singing of the National anthem by Jr Ambassador and 2018 Montclair High School Graduate, Adarian Sneed.
Entertainment for the day will include children’s activities, rides, games, give-a-ways, USA Kaisokah Stilt walkers and clowns.
James Eason, Entertainment Chair, said, “We have planned a full day of activities for adults as well as children. Last years club mix was well received, and this year we have made no exception in securing this years entertainment.”
Musical performances by Dawn Tallman, queen of gospel energy band Annonayous and Vessels of Praise of St. Paul Baptist Church, Montclair.
Tallman commented, “I look so forward in returning to Montclair , the last time i was here was to for a picnic for the Neighborhood Child Care Center a few years,ago ”

Charles Dixon from WBLS, local DJ Hardcore (Corey Scott Anderson) and DJ Punch of the Zanzibar (Punch Phillips).
Dixon said, “Thanks for having me as part of this years lineup . I look forward to playing and having the opportunity to play for many of the people that tune into the show on early Saturday Morning from 1 to 2 am on WBLS.”
The parade and park event are open to to the public. Nishuane park is Accessible by public transportation via the 34 Montclair (NJ transit ) from Newark’s Pennsylvania Station and 66 Decamp Bus line from NYC/NJ Port Authority direct service to the park.
Activities Scheduled leading up to parade include the Memories meet and Greet Dance held at the Montclair High school Atrium located at the George Inness building Friday June 1, 2018 music by Dee Jay J.J.
This year the foundation celebrates the principle of Nia ‘Purpose: “To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community, in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.”
