20 Years Later: Search Continues For Missing Union County Toddler – Westfield, NJ Patch

UNION COUNTY, NJ – It has been 20 years since two-year-old Kevin Sabir Barthrop disappeared near his Chilton Street residence in Elizabeth and investigators are still seeking information hoping to bring him home.
Acting Union County Prosecutor Jennifer Davenport said investigators are continuing to pursue answers and ask for information from the public regarding Barthrop’s disappearance.
According to authorities, the two-year-old was last seen near his home on the 100 block of Chilton Street in Elizabeth on Saturday, June 12, 1999 and as part of the continuing investigation a New Jersey State Police sketch artist has produced an image depicting what Barthrop would look like today, with aging factored in.
The image has been shared by local, county, and federal authorities online and in the neighborhood where Barthrop was last seen during the previous two weeks. It is also attached to this story.
Davenport said people living in Essex and Union County in New Jersey and in North Carolina are believed to have information about Barthops’s fate.
The Prosecutor’s Office has been working with the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCCP), New Jersey State Police, University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Police Department, and the Rocky Mount, North Carolina Police Department over the course of the investigation, Davenport said.
Anyone with information about the disappearance of Barthrop is being urged to contact Prosecutor’s Office Sgt. Michael Manochio at 908-966-2287 or Sgt. Janet Lopez at 908-347-8491.
The Union County Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Barthrop being found or an arrest and indictment being made in connection with the disappearance; tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654-TIPS (8477) or online at www.uctip.org.
