John M. Renna 76 years old of Toms River passed away March 14, 2022 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
“Johnny” Michael Renna grew up in West Orange, NJ. He was a graduate of West Orange High School Class of 1964. He was a member of West Orange Football Team, His claim to fame, John could punt the ball with a perfect spiral a mile high and 60 yards downfield. John also was a left fielder for the West Orange Baseball team and had a batting average over 300, most hits were doubles. As an avid bowler he had numerous 300 games and won many awards.
After high school he went to St. Bonaventure and after 2 years there he finished his college education at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ.
John worked in the Essex County Sheriff Department. He then founded Allaire Enterprises of NJ where he retired after 25 years. For most of those years his coworker and special friend “Ladydog” was at his side. John was a pioneer of glass engraving in the area. His awards brought smiles to those who received them. He donated extra trophies to underprivileged children’s organizations.
John was President of Manasquan Chamber of Commerce where he also served on the Board of Directors, and he also belonged to the Brielle Chamber of Commerce.
He designed and made many memorable mementos for the Rockette Alumnae Association of which his wife was a member.
John was also awarded an honorary membership to the Manasquan Historical Society. John got a lot of enjoyment out of Sam Butera’s music, (happy music) traveling to his performances as his “Roadie”.
John was a WW II Enthusiast and donated his memorabilia to Ocean County College History Department. His WW II book collection of WW II signatures was donated to the WW II Museum in Louisiana.
John was a devoted husband of 36 years to his wife Barbara. They enjoyed many wondrous adventures traveling to Italy, Germany and cruising on the Queen Mary.He enjoyed attending numerous social functions, including those of the Rockette Alumnae Associations. He was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Lakewood, NJ.
Besides his wife Barbara, John is survived by his brother August J. Renna Jr. his wife Diana, and his niece Raychel,. step son James Hartl and his wife JoAnn, step daughter Denise Forehand, his grandchildren Colin and his wife Megan,Brielle, her husband Nick Richburg, his great grandchildren Jesse, Maya, Flora Belle, Paul, and Sophia.
Visiting will be Sunday March 20th, 1:00 – 4:00pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, NJ. Funeral services will be Monday, March 21st 11:00am at the funeral home. Arrive at 10:30am. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River NJ.
