MEND Hosting Annual ‘Green Bean’ Fundraising Gala March 9 at Woodland – The Village Green

From Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity (MEND):

Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity (MEND) is hosting its first annual Green Bean Gala, March 9, 2019, from 7 to 11 pm, at The Woodland in Maplewood, NJ. The fundraising event will include music, dancing, food, and auctions.

Individual tickets are $125, but MEND is offering special pricing — a “pear” of tickets for $200 — if purchased by February 14. Proceeds from the event will support hunger relief. Tickets can be purchased through the organization’s website mendnj.org/green-bean-gala.

MEND is a hunger relief network of 19 food pantries located throughout Essex County. In 2018, MEND pantries served over 128,000 people, nearly 40% of whom were children.

Executive Director Robin Peacock said, “We are excited to host our first ever Green Bean Gala. We named the event after our new mobile food pantry, a converted school bus known as ‘The Green Bean,’ to highlight our core mission of supporting our member pantries and providing greater access to healthier food for hungry families and individuals throughout our community.”

Many of MEND’s patrons are the working poor – those who have jobs, but do not earn enough to consistently provide food for themselves or their families. Many others, such as seniors or the disabled, are struggling to get by on modest fixed incomes.

MEND Chairman Jamie R. Anthony, Jr. said, “The Green Bean Gala is a great way for MEND to start off the year, raising awareness and funds for this important cause. We also recently added two new pantries to our network, as well as five new Trustees to our board, expanding our dynamic, versatile team, and broadening MEND’s ability to serve more people in need.”

Event sponsors include Kings Food Markets, the Summit Medical Group Foundation, 4 Elbows, Karen Hartshorn Hilton and Jim Hilton, Allison Kalsched, the Farm & Fork Society, and Dyanna Moon Properties.
